During his tenure, Griffo has been a leader not only on the local level but also on the state and national levels as well, earning appointments to prestigious state panels by Gov. George Pataki and leadership positions in the United States Conference of Mayors and the New York Conference of Mayors, serving as president.
Known for his conservative fiscal policies and the decisiveness to make things happen, Griffo received the endorsement of the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties in both 1995 and again in 1999.
Griffo first sought elective office in 1989, running for a seat on the Oneida County Legislature. Endorsed as the Republican and Conservative party candidate in a predominately Democratic district, Griffo was successful. In his first term, he was appointed Parliamentarian to the Legislature and was named the Vice Chairman of the Legislature’s Planning Committee. He also served on the Economic Development, Public Health and Courts and Laws Committees.
